2015 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal

This year, the Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG) would like to recognize Dining Services for their contributions to campus life by having them Grand Marshal the 2015 Homecoming Parade. Dining Services continues to be a leader nationwide, has been recognized for a variety of achievements, and works tirelessly to provide the UConn community with the best possible product.

In 2015, UConn’s Dining Services has been named #1 for Gluten-Free Dining Options by Udi’s, won a Gold Medal a NACUFS for Best Local Foods Recipe Contest, Silver at NACUFS for the Loyal E. Horton Awards Retail Sales, One Plate, Two Plates, opened the 1st University Gluten Free Bakery in the United States, won a Silver Medal at NACUFS Regional Culinary Competition, and won 2nd Place Best Ice Cream Shop in Connecticut – CT Now Best of Hartford for their UConn Dairy Bar.

In addition to these accomplishments, over the past two years they have won a variety of other awards and honors. Their dedication to creative dining options has grown this year, with the addition of two new food trucks on campus, who will be representing them at the Parade: Food for Thought, and the UConn Ice Cream Truck.

This year’s parade will begin at 12pm on Glenbrook Road, move down Hillside Road, and turn down Gilbert Road ending at South Campus. Be sure to come cheer on Dining Services, and the many other fantastic UConn Student representation during this annual Homecoming Kickoff!

Lip Sync Performance Clarifications

Additions and clarifications in regards to mitigating performance risks for Lip Sync. In an effort to help make Lip Sync a safer environment for performers, we have identified some high-level risk activities that we ask you refrain from incorporating into your performance. These additions are not new for this year, but in an effort to help provide clarity to the types of maneuvers your team should avoid, we’ve created more simple guidelines. While we understand every team wants to put on the best performance possible, a higher risk maneuver does not equate to a higher score.

  1. As these performances are on a wood floor (with covering) – a stunt that incorporates a toss should not be allowed.  Additionally, anytime a person may become inverted, they should not be doing so over a person or prop.
  2. For safety purposes, anytime a person is being lifted vertically, it should be done by two people (one per each foot – these people are known as bases) and a spotter should be behind the person being lifted to protect the neck and head. Bases must use both hands, should never be holding anything else (props, etc.), and should stay in contact with the person through the dismount. Lastly, bases should never lift a person higher than chest level
  3. Judges will be given all of these rules and will be told to make decisions accordingly.

Floats/Vehicle Insurance

All team who plan on having a float as part of the Homecoming Parade must e-mail homecoming.subog@gmail.com and/or kyle.neary@uconn.edu to make sure that all vehicles have the appropriate insurance. If this is not done, floats may not be allowed to participate in the parade.

Additionally, this also applies to any vehicle that may be used in the parade – whether it’s being decorated, or simply for music. Every vehicle must have the appropriate insurance.

Lip Sync Participant Maximum

We want to remind everyone that there is an 80 participant maximum during the Lip Sync performance. Each team may only have that number of individuals – this had previously been outlined on the submission form, but was not on the Lip Sync information sheet – we have corrected so that both areas reflect that rule.
